Tallinn Taxi services
Tallinn has many different taxi companies and independent taxis. Taxi stands can be found near major Tallinn hotels and next the Drama theatre just outside Old Town, but grabbing a taxi on the street, especially those parked in Old Town, is the best way to get ripped off. There is no standardised base price or price per km. Some tourist scam taxis have absurdly high prices, and as long as those prices are displayed on the sticker in the window and on the dashboard, they are completely legal. Ordering a taxi by phone is always the best strategy, to avoid the bad taxis. Night time rates can be about 20% more.
A few tips for taking a taxi in Tallinn:
- Passengers can choose a taxiat the taxi stand, but it is cheaper to call a taxi by mobile phone.
The taxis use different price lists so the ride cost can be different
- The cost of the taxi-ride is shown on the taximeter display – taxi drivers are not allowed to charge passengers higher than the reading from taximeter
Tallin taxi fares can be paid in cash only, but today many cabs also allow you to pay by card.
- First thing to do is to read the price list for the taxi’s services – price list is located on the window of the rear passenger door.
